Yeshua’s Deity existed before His humanity -before creation.
A quiet note to ‘Turncoats’
I do hope that this article makes some Messianic / Hebrew Roots folks uncomfortable. I see within Torah based believers in Yeshua a tendency to ‘de-emphasize’ Yeshua’s divine nature as, YHVH, יהוה. And so I hope to present the scriptures that determine who Yeshua truly is, as Elohim, אלהים. Yeshua’s existance did not begin with the conception of Myriam (Mary) by the Ruach HaKodesh, רוח הקודש, Holy Spirit. Yeshua’s existance began before creation as the Aleph-Tav, את.
Let’s look at what the scriptures have to say about who Yeshua is…
New Testament Scriptures
– the divine pre-existance of Yeshua
Let’s look at the New Testament scriptures first and then move on to the Tenach. In the gospel of Matthew we are immediately introduced to Yeshua’s humanity and earthly genealogy. Yeshua is a descendant of David as to His earthly parents (see Lukes genealogy also). Yeshua’s legal genealogy is from Joseph and His physical genealogy is from His mother.
But Yeshua’s existence goes back before His conception by the Holy Spirit as the gospel of John make clear. Yeshua is not just a man or earthy Messiah. Yeshua is actually the Word of God made flesh! This is not small deal. He is the Light that shines in the darkness. Let’s read John’s account…
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. 15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. 16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. 17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. 18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
John 1:1-18
The New Testament scriptures make it very plain that Yeshua is God manifest in flesh. Instead of recreating my own list, here is a list of scriptures from the following website titled Deity of Messiah: Was Yeshua God.
“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.” 1
Timothy 3:16
Many can accept the Messiahship of Yeshua, yet deny His deity. Below are places that show Yeshua referred to Himself as more than just mere man:
“I and the Father are One.”
Yochanan 10:30
“Truly truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”
Yochanan 8:58
Later in the Yochanan 8 passage, the crowd started gathering stones to stone Him, they understood He was claiming pre-creation existence here.
“Now Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.”
Yochanan 17:5
Only God existed before His creation.
“Where two or three have gathered in My name, I am in their midst.”
Mattityahu 18:20
Can mere man be everywhere? Only an omnipresent G-d can.
“….trust in G-d, trust also in me.”
Yochanan 14:1
Would we trust any man as we would trust G-d unless that Man *was* God?
“For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom He wishes.”
Yochanan 5:21
Only the Creator could do this, Yeshua said He could too.
“For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgement to the Son.”
Yochanan 5:22
Only God can judge mankind, Yeshua says He will.
“….Son, your sins are forgiven.”
Mark 2:5
Only G-d can forgive our sins, yet here, Yeshua is forgiving sins.
“….All authority has been given to Me in heaven in earth.”
Mattityahu 28:18
Only God is in charge of the universe.Yeshua was clearly more than mere man, he was a human manifestation of God.
If the concept of Yeshua being ‘God’ bakes your noddle, I would have to ask, do you know Him? Or do you merely know about Him? There is a difference. Torah knowledge is not necessarily heart connection and repentance. Unlike doubting Thomas, you have not come to that place of revelation and acknowledgment, proclaiming,
“My Lord and my God”
John 20:28
Let’s continue with the quotations from the site above…
“looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Messiah Yeshua,”
Titus 2:13
“Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Yeshua Messiah, To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Yeshua Messiah:”
2 Peter 1:1
Here actually called God!
“And I will kill her children with pestilence, and all the churches will know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts; and I will give to each one of you according to your deeds.”
Revelation 2:23
Only God knows everything and can know our minds and hearts.
“who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.”Only G-d has this kind of power.
Philippians 3:21
“And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,”
Hebrews 1:3
Only God sits on the throne in heaven.
Yeshua Messiah is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Hebrews 13:8
Same as God
“For I am the LORD, I change not;”
Malachi 3:6
For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form,
Colossians 2:9
Further, Scripture shows us that Yeshua was worshipped, indicating His deity, since only G-d is worshipped:
Matthew 2:11
After coming into the house they saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
And those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, “You are certainly God’s Son!”
Matthew 14:33
And behold, Yeshua met them and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him.
Matthew 28:9
When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful.
Matthew 28:17
So if you doubt the divinity of Messiah, your problem is not the scriptures, it is unbelief. You need to come to the Lord and ask Him to grant you repentance and believing faith. If you cannot believe in Yeshua’s deity then I suspect that you do not know Him. You know about Him but you do not know Him. Your problem is simply unbelief, your proud mind cannot grasp what a child can understand.
“The Light shineth in the darkness and the darkness comprehended it not”
John 1:5
Repent!
Old Testament Scriptures
Bethlehem was to be the place of birth of no ordinary child. The ruler of Israel was to be born there for sure, but His existence didn’t begin in Bethlehem…
Micah 5:2
But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
Not only did Yeshua pre-exist before conception, but the following comparison of texts from old to new testament application highlight Yeshua’s deity
(taken from ‘Proving that Jesus is God from the old testament‘)…
Isaiah 40:3 speaks about preparing the way for the LORD (Yahweh). When we compare this verse with Mark 1:3 we see that Jesus is the LORD who had the way prepared for him by John the Baptist.
Proving that Jesus is God from the old testament
In Joel 2:32a it says that whoever calls upon the Name of the LORD (Yahweh) will be saved. This verse is quoted by Peter in Acts 2:21, and by Paul in Romans 10:13. Both apostles are clearly referring to Jesus as the LORD.
In Isaiah 6:1-10 we read about the marvelous vision that Isaiah had revealing the glory of the LORD (Yahweh). John tells us in John 12:40-41 that this vision revealed the glory of Jesus.
In Isaiah 44:6, the LORD (Yahweh) refers to himself as “the First and the Last”. In Revelation 1:8 and 17, Jesus similarly refers to himself as “the Alpha and the Omega” and “the First and the Last”.
In Zechariah 12:10 the LORD (Yahweh) is speaking and says that, “they will look on Me whom they have pierced.”[4] This is obviously Jesus speaking (Psalm 22:16; John 19:34). This passage from Zechariah appears again in Revelation 1:7b and is clearly about Jesus Christ.
What’s so hard to understand?
Simply put, the Lord’s (יהוה) oneness is a composite unity, not a rabbinical singularity. Even as Eve came from Adam so the Holy Spirit came forth from the Father. The Ruach HaKodesh is feminine in Hebrew and in actuality. The Holy Spirit is a ‘She’ not a ‘He’ or an ‘It’ (as in pagan Greek).
In Genesis chapter one we read that the spoken word “Let there be light” came after the agency of the Spirit of God was fluttering above the waters. So we have an order to things, first, the Father, the will and plan of creation, then the feminine Holy Spirit agency and finally the command is issued via the Word. The order is Father, then Holy Spirit and finally the Son (the Word).
The Spirit hovers upon the waters. The Word then comes forth from the Father after the Holy Spirit (the silent partner in creation) creates the conditions that are necessary for the Word to penetrate creation and create. The Word form’s from nothing or re-forms from that which is ‘formless and void’. But it can only do this as the Holy Spirit provides the enabling fecundity.
And from the Father in Heaven’s perspective, like a software programmer, He has to create a software language before he can create the software hologram that we call creation. So before the Word goes forth, the actual ‘programming language’ is constructed. And this language is embodied in the Aleph-Tav (Greek Alpha and Omega). This is the Son, pre-incarnate Yeshua, the Son of Man that Isaiah saw seated upon the throne in heaven, Is 6. The Word.
If you try and match the New Testament with rabbinical thinking concerning the ‘Godhead’ or a divine Messiah, you wont find reconciliation, because the Rabbis that rebelled against Yeshua fashioned their own religion called ‘Judaism’ and it forked from scripture to be it’s own ‘thing’ because they did not accept Yeshua as the Son of God, as God manifest in flesh and as the Messiah. Christianity likewise forked and imbibed Roman paganism. So there are two pagan golden calves if you like.
However Yeshua’s divinity is not pagan, it is scriptural. As we, the House of Israel, return to Torah, the House of Judah has it’s own return and repentance to perform concerning the Son.
The only way this issue of Yeshua’s deity will be resolved by the Jews will be through the individual and national repentance of the House of Judah concerning Yeshua. We can hasten that process by returning to torah.
Denying Yeshua’s deity is not a return to Torah, it is a denial of Torah and the New Covenant scriptures and the prophets.
Unity and the Holy Spirit
One further note,
What the Hebrew roots movement still lacks is unity and the miracle working power of the Holy Spirit which brings the Light of Elohim to the hearts of men and women, boys and girls. These are indeed days of apostasy like the days of Elijah. We will see such a move of God that will shake the earth. It will raise up the very small remnant of the 10 lost tribes of the House of Israel. This awakening will not save America or the western world, no, they are both going to Sodom and the Abyss. But it will awaken captive Israel and the remnant amongst the nations. The miracles will come when the persecution arrives. The sleeping Laodicean church wont wake up. Only those that have ears will hear and then the afflictions of persevering faith will produce the gold tried by fire as is promised to the overcomers, Rev 3. We will leave our devastated lands for the ‘North Country’ and ultiimately Israel itself, after the trials of World War 3.
In the meantime know that it’s all about the fully divine and truly human ‘Son of Man’, Yeshua the ‘Son of God’. And we are part of Him and ultimately we will be one as he is one, John 17:11. This is the אחד, Echad (one/oneness), that the Lord is looking for. All those that are of the Light are truly human and truly divine also as they are grafted into the vine. We are not divine without that divine connection with Yeshua. And if we are truly divine then we will walk in His commandments and take up our cross and follow Him. As we mortify our members we are also risen with Him. We are not little self willed gods, but broken and obedient sons and daughters. We are vessels for the divine presence, through the Holy Spirit and that blood of the Covenant, the blood of Yeshua. And from that place of brokenness and crucifixion comes the divine victory of the resurrection of the Son of God within us.
We are going to need every ounce of that connection to the divine Yeshua our Saviour in the days ahead.
To Yeshua who is God, be the glory, to the glory of God the Father.
Amen.
So is denying the Creation of the Spirit called the Word denying Yeshua’s very existance?
ISAIAH 10 (BEN UZIEL Targum – The Original Bible) 11 Thus saith the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, AND HE THAT FORMED HIM, Ye question me about things concerning my people, which shall come to pass; and will ye command me concerning the work of my power? 12 It is I who have made the earth by my Word, and I have created man upon it; it is I who have suspended the heavens by my power, and I have laid the foundation of all the hosts of them. 13 It is I who will verily bring him forth publicly, and all his paths I will direct: he shall build my city, and he shall let the captives of my people go, not for a price nor for money, saith the Lord of hosts. ISAIAH 10 (BEN UZIEL Targum – dead sea scrolls) 22 Turn unto my Word, and be ye saved, all that are at the ends of the earth: for I am the Lord, and there is none else. 23 I have sworn by my Word, the word is gone forth in righteousness from my presence, and shall not fail, That before me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. 24 Surely, He has promised to bring me righteousness and strength by the Word of the Lord. In His Word they shall offer praise, and all the nations that are incensed against His people shall be ashamed. 25 In the Word of the Lord all the seed of Israel shall be justified and glorified. ISAIAH 12 (BEN UZIEL) — 1 And thou shalt say at that time, I will confess before Thee, Lord, for that I have sinned before Thee, Thine anger is upon me; but when I return to the law, Thine anger will turn from me, and Thou wilt have mercy on me. 2 Behold, in the Word of God is my salvation; I am trusting, and shall not be moved, because my strength and my praise is the fear of the Lord: He hath spoken by His Word, and He is become my Saviour. (87) ISAIAH 26 (BEN UZIEL) 4 Trust ye in the Word of the Lord for ever and ever: thus ye shall be saved by the Word, who is the fear of the Lord, the mighty One to eternity.
– Exodus (Shemoth) Chapter 33: Targum of Onkelos (Mosheh speaking with the Word of Yahweh who is speaking for Yahweh) And he said, Show me, I pray, Thy Glory! And He said, I will make all My Goodness pass before thy face, and I will proclaim the Name of the Lord before thee, and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and have mercy on whom I will have mercy. And He said, THOU CANST NOT SEE THE FACE OF MY SHEKINAH; for NO MAN CAN SEE ME AND ABIDE ALIVE. And the Lord said, Behold, there is a place prepared before Me, and thou shalt stand upon the rock, and it shall be, when My Glory passes, I will put thee in a cavern of the rock, and MY WORD SHALL OVERSHADOW THEE UNTIL I HAVE PASSED; and I will take away THE WORD OF MY GLORY, and thou shalt see that which is after Me, BUT MY ASPECT SHALL NOT BE SEEN.
